Rotaria cf laticeps: whirling specimen, sitting on the red alga Polysiphonia sp.(1)
Rotaria cf laticeps: creeping specimen, on the red alga Polysiphonia sp.(1)
Rotaria cf laticeps: head, dorsal view. The rostrum is very short, it looks like cut of and does not protrude the trochal discs while whirling.
Rotaria cf laticeps: head, optical median section.
The determination of this taxon is based on the following arguments:
except Wulfert's description (1941) there is little further information available for R. laticeps. The planes of the trochal discs form an angle of approximately 180 degrees in dorsal view (like the trochal planes of Rotaria citrina). The taxon found here is characterized by the short rostrum, which does not protrude beyond the plane of the trochal discs when whirling, as is the case with R. citrina. However, the rostrum in dorsal view is a straight line in contrast to the typical semicircular outline of the rostrum of Rotaria rotatoria.
